As many of you may have already noticed, our Findlay Market stall is under construction. With improvements under way down in OTR, we’ll be set up in one of our Blue Oven tents near our stall on Saturday and Sunday, but in order to keep our week day farmers’ markets running smoothly, our stall will not be open Tuesday-Friday while construction is ongoing. We appreciate you patience, and we can’t wait to show you what’s in store for Blue Oven at Findlay Market!
Know Your Bread: Fuscaldese
The Fuscaldese is one of a pair of loaves that is made with predominantly Durum Flour. Like the Pane Italiano it is made using a overnight ferment made with dry yeast to enhance the flavor of an already delicious loaf. Durum is another form of wheat that is popular in Italy for use in pasta production, and we like it because it brings out some of the tradition at Blue Oven. With Italian baking and food underlying the history and creation of Blue Oven the Fuscaldese and Pane Italiano hold a special place on our bread list. The Fuscaldese also get the added benefit of the sesame seeds added after the loaf is shaped. Baked to perfection the Fuscaldese is a great bread for sandwiches, a dipping vehicle for red sauces of all kinds and because it’s a non-sourdough it’s a fan favorite for a lot of folks looking for a white bread with a bang. It’s oner of the best weeks of the summer and we can’t wait to celebrate with you! As fireworks and cookouts approach we know you’ll be needing bread for friends and family, and we’re here to help. We’ll be ready for your Tuesday at the Hilliard Farmers’ Market and the Loveland Farmers’ Market and Wednesday at the Blue Ash, Northside and Fort Thomas Farmers’ Market with loads of great Blue Oven as well as our Keto friends who will help you test the waters at your cookouts with a low carb alternative for your burgers. Keto bread is likely to be at each of the weekday markets but stay tuned for changes. A quick reminder that due to the holiday the Madeira Farmers’ Market will be closed this Thursday.
Know Your Bread: Seasonal Croissants
We’re just about to see a wide-variety of produce coming from Blue Oven Farm into the bakery, and that means you’ll get to see more and more seasonal offerings in our breads going to farmers’ markets! Some of you may have already tasted some of the benefits of using fresh fruits and veggies like the Feta and Garlic Scape Cheese & Grist this weekend, and some of you may have had our sweet croissant with mixed berry jam with sweet cream or our savory is a pesto made with farm grown garlic scapes and swiss chard topped with roasted peppers and farm grown ramps! Throughout the season those items will continue to change, and they’re a great way to change up what you see at market and show you what is going on at the Farm. Stay tuned to social media for updates on what our croissant of the week will be and get to your market early because supplies are usually limited. We aren’t able to offer these croissants at our retailers, but maybe some day down the road you’ll get to try one wherever you shop for Blue Oven. We can’t wait to share what's next!

As May progresses we’re moving to more and more outdoor markets, and this week we’ll return to one of our summer locations, and it’s one of our favorites! We’ll be back in Summit Park for the Blue Ash Farmers’ Market starting at 3:30 on Wednesday! It’s a great spot for a farmers’ market and to spend some time in the sun, so come see us every week this summer!
We’re also adding a bread delivery to a great fruit and vegetable market in the Blue Ash area every Saturday! Some of you may have noticed, but we’ve been there the past few weeks, but we’re looking forward to continuing to add to your Blue Oven options throughout the week!

Moving Outside, Anderson Farmers' Market, Reminder Findlay Market Hours Expanded
The warm spring weather has finally arrived, and we’re starting our transition into outdoor markets this week. We kicked off the outdoor season at the Loveland Farmers’ Market on Tuesday, and we’ll continue our moves outdoor today with the Northside Farmers’ Market hitting Jacob Hoffner Park for the first time in 2019! To continue our moves, we’ll be starting a brand new Saturday market for Blue Oven with our first week at the Anderson Farmers’ Market at St. Timothy’s Church on Beechmont Avenue!
Don’t forget, we’re now at Findlay Market on all regular business days, limited bread throughout the week with English Muffins and our Toast Bar menu, and our full slate on Saturday and Sunday! Head on out to see us!
Some Kind Words from Findlay Market!
Husband and wife duo, Mark and Sara Frommeyer, are farmers by trade and artisan breadmakers by design. “Thirteen years ago my wife and I felt that there was a need for better bread—bread that is fresh, organic and locally sourced,” says Mark. Since their epiphany, the two have been cultivating and revolutionizing the bread-making scene in Cincinnati.
Before Blue Oven Bakery “was a thing,” the pair solely owned and operated their family farm located about thirty minutes outside of the city off of Ohio State Route 32 in Williamsburg where they organically grew (and continue to grow) crops like wheat and tomatoes. In order to focus their attention on breadmaking, the couple took an entire summer off from farming and dedicated months to refining their bread. Mark built a wood-fired oven on the farm—adorned with, you guessed it, blue tiles Mark found at a garage sale while passing through Cleveland—and the rest is history.
“We are at fourteen farmers markets around Cincinnati, including Findlay Market. A large portion of our ingredients are sourced straight from our farm, like our organic grain, but since we have expanded, it’s been challenging trying to source everything locally. We do our best to buy local, in-season produce from other farmers at the farmers markets.” Some of their best sellers include English muffins, their Bad Boy Sourdough and sweet and savory croissants.
In recent months, Mark and Sara have taken on several new, expansive projects simultaneously. The first big project is happening directly on their farm. “We bought a second farm that is going to be open to the public. We want to create an ‘agriculture tourism’ experience for folks. They’ll be able to pick veggies and take in-depth tours of our milling and baking processes.”
The second big project is, as you may have noticed, is taking place right here at the Market. They are building in an oven so they can make and bake their bread in-house.
“We’re really excited about this. We wanted to expand both our rural and urban locations.”
Mark and Sara are wholly devoted to their craft and staying true to their roots. “We want people to know we are committed to being the urban producer of hand-crafted, organic, locally-made bread for Cincinnati. We’ve turned down many opportunities to expand because we always want to be accessible to the public and provide a quality product.”

FINDLAY MARKET EXPANSION! NEW HOURS START APRIL 23!
As many of our Findlay Market customers may have seen or heard rumors of, there are changes happening down at our stall in OTR. We can finally announce one of the first changes to our downtown location, and that’s with changes to our schedule. On April 23 we will begin a full week schedule, from Tuesday to Sunday we will be open during regular Findlay Market hours. From Tuesday through Friday you can expect English Muffins, and a limited bread menu as well as our Toast Bar offerings, and then you’ll get all your Blue Oven favorites throughout the weekend as usual. On top of the changes to the schedule, we have more improvements coming soon, and construction will be ongoing for exciting new Blue Oven opportunities at Findlay Market beginning tentatively in June 2019. We’re excited to bring even more availability to our OTR location, and we can’t wait to share even more about what’s next!
In Case You Missed It! Blue Oven and Puig
As the years have gone on, we’re always astounded by the opportunities Blue Oven Bakery has been presented. We’re incredibly grateful that people continue to recommend us for events that are going to help those in and around the city of Cincinnati! Last week was no different when we had they opportunity to work with one of Cincinnati’s newest heroes! Yasiel Puig’s Foundation invited us and several other local food creators to provide refreshments for a special meet and greet with the Cincinnati Reds slugger, and we loved being able to lend a hand, and also enjoy a great event! Blue Oven All-Star Jack Frommeyer got to meet and compete with Yasiel, and he had a blast! We look forward to working with Puig in the future as well as the new event opportunities that will present themselves to us down the road!
The Last Weekend for the Winter Season at The Market at Mother Stewart's
Along with the warmer weather April and May will be bringing, it also brings changes to the Blue Oven schedule! The big change this week is to the Springfield Farmers Market at Mother Stewart’s! The Market at Mother Stewart’s is heading into its final weekend as the winter season closes on another great market. Make sure to head on out to support the great vendors who’ve made that market such a success!

Know Your Bread: Miche
It’s been awhile since we’ve given you a deeper look at one of our signature sourdough loaves, so this time we thought it best to introduce you to one of the most important breads on our list. Most of our sourdough as is the case with many bakeries is a mixture of flours, but there’s one bread on our list that truly stands apart—our Miche. The Miche is our whole-wheat sourdough, and it’s that simple. Whole-wheat flour, salt, water, and sourdough mixed together into dough, shaped in large boules and baked in our wood-fired ovens. You can find the whole-wheat sourdough at most of our weekly markets, and it’s a good thing too because it pairs well with any meal! Go grab one this week, you won’t regret it!
